About the club
The Invalid Carriage Register is a voluntarily run register in the United Kingdom that documents and preserves historic disability-related vehicles. It deals with Invalid Carriages or Invacars, three-wheeled vehicles that were initially hand-powered after the First World War and provided by the NHS from the 1970s.
The register has existed since 1995 and was set up by a person named Julian, who established the first records and advocated for the preservation of this heritage. Another person later took over management until 2016, after which the current voluntary director followed.
The register works with museums, the press, filmmakers, and public and private vehicle owners, and supports identification, conservation, restoration and registration matters. It is estimated that just over 300 to 400 of these vehicles remain in the world today.
The register is open to enthusiasts and users, who are invited to contribute stories, images and videos.
